Sliding Into Home

The title of my book is Sliding Into Home. The author is Dori Hillestad Butler. My book is about this girl Joelle. She moved to Greendale, Iowa. Her favorite sport was baseball. Her school had no baseball for girls. There was only a boys' team at Hoover Middle School. Before she knew she wasn't allowed to play, the boys' team coach wouldn't even let her try out for the team. After she knew she wasn't allowed to play, she did something nobody would have done at Hoover Middle School.

Leaping Beauty

Leaping Beauty was one of the best books I ever read!

There are eight books in Leaping Beauty. It was great. I highly recommend it. It was very funny. I liked everything in the book.

At the end of "So What and the Seven Giraffes," So What's new name was Slap Me Silly. Anyone who walked up to him and said "What's your name?," he would say, "Slap Me Silly." They would slap him silly and his head would go bobbing. People would think that's funny but I would be smoking mad.

Leaping Beauty

Leaping Beauty is the animals' version of fairy tales. It is very silly. The names of the books are: Leaping Beauty, Goldiefox and the Three Chickens, Hamster and Gerbil, So What and the Seven Giraffes, Little Red Robin Hood, and more.

My favorite story is Rumplesnakeskin. It's my favorite story because the sheep had to give her wool to the snake so he could make golden thread.

I thought The Real Lucky Charm was not good. It was really boring. It was a level 1 reading scale. Just try to get through the book.

Gifts from the Sea

WARNING: This gives away a bit of the plot!

This was a really good book. A very good book.

Quila was a great character. She made assumptions and acted very quickly. She didn't give people or events enough time.

Quila was also brave. She was very brave when her dad went out to sea to help the people from the shipwreck. She took care of the lighthouse and the baby, Celia. She was jealous of Abby Burgess but she was just as brave.

Sometimes, Quila's bravery was stupid. Like, when she took Celia in the boat. She didn't know how to swim or row the boat!

We liked Aquila's father. We liked that he asked Margaret to marry him with a basket of blueberries. We might like to be proposed to that way, though we don't all like blueberries. We like strawberries better.

There were some creepy and sad parts in this book. It was very fictional. There are ghosts!

It was unique how the baby came in the mattresses. It was cool that that part was based on truth. Some of us are not sure it's believeable that the mattresses would float. One of us tried floating on a mattress when she was camping with a cousin. They floated for a little while but then sank. We think maybe seals must have helped Celia before Quila and her dad found her. Still, it's based on a real story!

Here's what we would miss most if we lived at Devil's Rock lighthouse in the middle of the ocean:
friends and family
autumn: seeing the trees and running around
going to school
land
the library
freedom
shopping
I would worry that the waves would erode the island away.

You should read this book! It's a nerve-wracking, page turning book. You want to find out what happens next. You don't want to stop reading.

Tale of Despereaux!

It will make you very tense. So, read this book!!!!

And you will soon find out that it is filled with adventure, excitement, and bravery. And parts of it will make you so mad!

It is also filled with mice.

The Tale of Despereaux is an adventure. It's about caring, and about bravery, about not always staying in the shadows. If you come out of the shadows, you get seen, which is not a good thing for mice and rats. If you come out of the shadows, you might have an adventure. Adventure is not good in the mouse world -- Except for Despereaux! Despereaux gets his tail chopped off! However, Despereaux the mouse saves the human Princess Pea from the mad rat.

We want you to read this book.

I would never name my child Princess Pea because it sounds disgusting.

If I had to vote tomorrow, this would be my choice. What a terrific book! I really like the characters, especially Moose and his sister Natalie. Great setting, too.
And this book has one of the all-time best endings I've ever read. Read it, your won't be sorry!!

Read No Small Thing!

I read _No Small Thing_. It's by Natalie Ghent. It's a really great book.

It's about Nathaniel and his two sisters, Queenie and Cid. When they came across an ad in the newspaper for a free pony, their whole life changes.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. So, start reading!

My favorite MCBA so far is probably _Sasha Cohen Fire on Ice._ I love autobiographies. I like to learn about people's lives.

I didn't know anything about Sasha Cohen before I read this book. I had never even heard of her! Now, I know she's an ice skater. I like that she won a world championship. She's only 16 or 17.

Probably even boys would like this book! Read it!

Mrs. Roopy is so loopy! This book was cool, It was fun, very, very, very, very silly and funny. Don't read this book if you don't like to laugh!

Humpty Dumpty was our favorite part. Mrs. Roopy got so fat! How did she do that? What, did she eat a bunch of eggs?

When the kids snuck into her office and she cried, it was so funny! Poor George Washington running around naked without his uniform.

That trick biker, dude, we loved her! We want to read all of the Weird School books!

There are four books so far in the Gregor the Overlander Series:
Gregor the Overlander

Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods
Gregor and the Marks of Secret

They are full of action, strange creatures, strange places, prophecies and struggles. I reccomend them to any fantasy fan as well.

We're reading Becoming Naomi Leon. We both really like it because it has action and problems for the characters to solve. We like the characters. Naomi lives in Lemontree in a trailer park. She really liked it when she got new clothes. We are excited to see what happens next.

This was a good book and people should read it!

In the beginning, Naomi Leon and her brother, Owen, were living with her grandmother. Then Skylar, their mother, just suddenly showed up. This book is about Naomi's life and the strange things that happen to her.

I think her mom's a bad mom: Would you have gone away with Skylar?
Don't you think parents should love their kids even if they're funny looking?

We think that the lesson of this story is treat others the way you want to be treated. And that should always be respectfully.

The Massachusetts Children’s Book Award

MCBA nominee children’s books are what 4th, 5th, and 6th graders can read. There are 25 nominee books. If you read 5 of the books you get to go to a party at Shutesbury Elementary School on March 9, 2007 and vote for your favorite book. If you read all 25 books then you get one of the books for free!
One of my favorite books is Quake! Quake is a story about a boy in San Francisco who finds a stray dog and brings it home. The boy and his sister are happy to see the dog but their father isn’t. The boy gets mad and leaves the house. Then there is an earthquake! The boy and dog can’t find their sister and father! I recommend this book to anybody!

Barn Owl: _Star Of Kazan_, by Ibbotson.

Interviewer: Which MCBA nominee is your favorite so far?
Barn Owl: They're all really good books; I can't pick a favorite.

Interviewer: What did you think of _Star Of Kazan_?
Barn Owl: I would recommend it to anyone. It was surprising how it turned out. It should have a sequel!

Interviewer: Did you have a favorite character?
Barn Owl: I liked Annika, the main character. I like how she gives people a chance. She gave her mother a second chance. I also like Ellie.

Barn Owl: Zed is mysterious. I like how he treats the horse more like a person than a horse.

Interviewer: What did you think about when you read this book?
Barn Owl: 1) Things aren't what they seem. 2) The kids learn how to be brave in the end.

_Shredderman: Secret Identity_ was awesome! There are four books in the series and we ant to read them all.

We think the author was trying to tell us that bullies are not nice. At the beginning of the book, we thought she was saying that you should agree with bullies so they don't beat you up. But Nolan tried to get rid of the bullies. He stood up to Bubba. He cut a hole in his back pack and put a camera in it to catch Bubba and prove he wasn't the nice kid teachers thought he was. Bubba does awful things.

Nolan had to use his imagination to put a stop to the bullying. That's what we think the author wanted us to know.

Midnight for Charlie Bone by Nimmo

How would you feel if you could hear voices from pictures? This is what happened to Charlie Bone. Charlie Bone is upset because his aunts want to put him in a magical school. This school is very strict. They have to wear capes. And they have to go into ruins where there's a terrible wolf! Charlie gets involved in a mystery about a girl who gets hypnotized.

This book is mysterious and full of suspense. Sometimes I was scared for Charlie and his friends. I thought they might get caught and get put into detention of hypnotized.

This book is really great! Anyone who likes mysteries should read it.

The Magician's Boy by Susan Cooper

We really liked the Magician's Boy because it had dragons and knights and fighting and lots of action. We also liked it because it was short book and it didn't have a lot of chapters in it. We like short books because they are fast reads and you can learn a lot.

There are a lot of adventures in Magician's Boy, like slaying the dragon. The boy met the little old lady who lived in the shoe, he searched for Saint George, and met a talking sign post! This book was very funny. You should read it.
